Bargain staycations may be hard to come by, but in the heart of Glengarriff village, a beloved West Cork business is bringing them back with a fresh start and familiar faces.

Glengarriff Hostel reopened in April 2025 under the warm and capable hands of local couple Deirdre and Finbarr O’Sullivan. For Deirdre, this is more than a business venture – it’s a full-circle moment.

“This place means the world to me,” she says. “It was my first job as a teenager, working for the Murphys who originally ran it as Murphy’s Village Hostel. The memories I have here made it impossible to walk away when the opportunity came up.”

She approached the Murphy family with the idea of leasing the hostel, and when they said yes, the whole O’Sullivan family – Finbarr and their four children included – got on board.

A Hostel with a Heartbeat

For Deirdre, it’s about more than bookings and beds. “It’s about taking care of a place that holds so many memories for me and for others,” she explains.

Today, Glengarriff Hostel is a welcoming hub for travellers exploring the Beara Peninsula and the Wild Atlantic Way. With a range of accommodations from cozy female-only dorms (from €45/night) to spacious family rooms (from €110/night), it offers something for every kind of adventurer.

Inside, you’ll find updated touches like privacy curtains on bunks, fresh black detailing on furniture, and a friendly communal vibe. Outside, you’re steps away from nature trails, Garinish Island, and the tranquil Glengarriff Woods.

More Than a Stay – It’s a Story

With a newly integrated booking system, listings on major platforms, and a growing presence on their website glenhostel.ie, Glengarriff Hostel is stepping confidently into its next era.

But at its core, it remains what it’s always been: a family-run, community-rooted space full of warmth, stories, and West Cork soul.
