If you’re in Killarney this summer and looking for something truly unique, make your way to the Government Buildings on New Road. From now until September 23rd, 2025, the space is hosting Kerry Icons — a captivating art exhibition by Paul Egan, a rising young talent from Kerry making waves with his distinctive style and powerful storytelling.
At just 22 years old, Paul Egan is entirely self-taught, and his work is already turning heads across the county and beyond. What sets him apart? His incredible ability to bring photorealistic portraits to life using aerosol spray paint — and not on traditional canvases, but on recycled vinyl records collected from charity shops in Tralee. The result is a bold, vibrant collection that’s as environmentally conscious as it is visually stunning.
Celebrating Kerry’s Legends
The exhibition features 50 portraits of some of Kerry’s most influential and beloved figures. Visitors will recognize icons from many walks of life — including cultural giants like Peig Sayers, John B. Keane, and Christie Hennessy; sports stars such as Kieran Donaghy, Mary Jo Curran, and Mick O’Connell; and internationally acclaimed actors like Jessie Buckley, Tim V. Murphy, and Michael Fassbender.
It also pays tribute to historical figures who made a real impact — from Daniel O’Connell, the Liberator, to Sister Consilio, a pioneer in addiction recovery, and Thomas Ashe, a key figure in Ireland’s revolutionary past.
More Than Art — It’s a Message
This is more than just an art exhibition. It’s a celebration of Kerry’s spirit, a reminder of our shared roots, and an invitation to be inspired by those who came before us.
Whether you’re a local, a visitor, or just passing through, Kerry Icons is a must-see this summer. Don’t miss your chance to experience one of Ireland’s most original young artists and a heartfelt tribute to the county that shaped him.
